edeptive:CMS™ features
User Management
An unlimited number of users can be defined, each with rights to contribute to, or have editorial control over designated sections of the web site. Users can be assigned to ‘Groups’ and rights assigned to those groups.
Structure Management
The structure of the web site can easily be maintained by authorised users. A new section can be added without any need to edit individual web pages. The section can be activated or deactivated at will or based upon specified dates. Thus a new section can be created, all the content added and tested before it is made active on the live web site. Any section of the site can be designated as only being available to designated users (or groups of users).
Design Templates
The look and feel of the site is controlled through the use of design templates. These are individual web page ‘templates’ that are used by edeptive:CMS™ to control the display of the web site content. There are generally only five to ten of these templates required for the whole web site. This means that the site will present a consistent look and feel no matter how large it becomes or who is contributing content to it. It also means that if there is a need to change the look and feel of the site (maybe a new logo or colour scheme) only these templates need to be changed. So even if the site has thousands of pages of information only the templates would need to be changed to update the entire site.
Content Management
Users are able to add, change or delete content items using a simple administration system. Items of content can fall into one of a number of categories based upon the type of information being input. Features that apply to the Content Management system include:-
- Date validity – user can input a range of dates during which the item of content will be displayed.
- Image Upload – user can upload for display on the web page any digital image from their PC or their network disk drives. Photographic images can automatically be resized and optimised for the web.
- File Upload – user can upload files that can be downloaded from the web page. Typical examples would be Acrobat .pdf files, MS Word documents, MS Excel spreadsheets etc.
- Version Control - Any changes to an item of content (typically a web page) will result in the prior version being archived. The archived versions can be viewed and restored if required at any time. A full audit trail is available as each item of content added and any subsequent changes is time date stamped and the user is identified.
Forms Design and Management
edeptive:CMS™ provides an easy to use Forms Editor which allows non technical users to create form to collect information from site vistors. range of form templates are provided which allow most of the commonly occuring forms to be created quickly and easily simply by adapting one of these templates. Once created, forms can be included on any page of your site.
Form submissions can generate multiple notification and confirmation emails automtically. Form submission data is also stored within edeptive:CMS™ and can be accessed and downloaded (as XML or CSV) from within the admiinistration system.
Keyword Search
A search facility allows keyword or structured searches to be made on the contents of either the whole web site or the section that the visitor is viewing. The search facility will return results irrespective of whether the user uses a singular or plural search term; e.g if the user searches for "companies" the results will include any content items with the word "company" as well.
Statistical Reporting™
Maintains its own detailed logs of user activity on the site. A wide range of reports are available to the site owner to be able to track activity at the site level and drill right down to individual users. It is possible for example to see that at visitor found the site as a result of searching for "content management" on Google and then see exactly what pages that user looked and and how long they spent on each page.
Multi Platform Support - Web, WAP, PDA’s, DTV, Teletext or Print
The architecture of edeptive:CMS™ allows you easily to publish your content selectively to varying devices. As you build the structure of your web site you will be able to indicate which formats you wish to publish to for each section.
XML Import, Export and Webservices
Any and all content can be accessed as XML using our range of webservices. We have several formats, including RSS 2.0. You can also import any content as XML, from uploaded files or via the webservices.
RSS Feeds
RSS of Atom news feeds can now be easiily created for any site sections. External RSS feeds may easily be included within your web site using a Widget within a content block. All you have to do is paste the RSS feed URL in, decide how many items you want to display and the external site RSS feed content will display on your page.
WAP with edeptive™
All sites built with edeptive:CMS™ are accessible via WAP devices. When you create sections for a site you can control which of those sections are accessible - news works well on a mobile phone but photo galleries are not suited to tiny screens, most of which are still black on green. When you add content items (e.g. news) to your WAP-accessible sections, those items are immediately available via mobile phones and other WAP devices. The content management system automatically converts any non-WML characters you may have entered so that they appear correctly on WAP devices (WML is far more pedantic than HTML so this is necessary).
In addition, we can create WAP "templates" for specific uses - Jersey Insight uses some for their directory search, weather forecast, etc.
edeptive:CMS™ automatically recognises both plain WML devices and those using the UP.Browser so that the best interface can be provided to the end user.
Site usage statistics can differentiate between web users and those on WAP devices (you can even get a list of which devices have been accessing the site).
SMS Broadcasts
In addition to e-mail lists, edeptive:CMS™ can also manage SMS creation and sending, either by site owners to lists of their registered visitors, or by registered visitors themselves. A credit system is used to charge for sending text messages; credits can be bought as "products" using the catalogue module (e.g. £1 for 10 credits). A site owner can create mailing lists which are usuable by registered visitors (say, the secretary of a motorcyle club); the site owner controls whether the sender or receiver of the SMS has to pay (i.e. does the motorcycle club pay for messages to its members or do the members pay).
Just as with e-mail lists, SMS lists can be created from a wide gamut of parameters: attributes, categories, groups, dates, etc.
